Jeremy Lin to miss remainder of season

The Real NBA reported recently that Jeremy Lin would be out indefinitely with a left knee issue and now according to ESPN, Jeremy Lin will undergo knee surgery and will miss up to 6 weeks with a torn MCL in his left knee.  The Knicks are currently the 8th seed in the eastern conference but with a little over 4 weeks left in the season, Lin wouldn't be available until the second round of the playoffs at the earliest if the Knicks were to advance.

Will the NBA rename the Hornets?

Ian Thomsen of Sports Illustrated recently wrote a story based upon the NBA and the New Orleans Hornets.  In his piece, Thomsen seems to have the inside track on a story that the NBA may soon can the name of the Hornets and allow Charlotte owner Michael Jordan to reclaim the Hornets NBA trademark.  The following is a couple of paragraphs from Thomsen's story.

"In years to come, there promises to be a new cable-TV partnership, the NBA All-Star Game will return to the city, the New Orleans Arena will undergo $50 million in improvements, and the franchise, in all likelihood, will be rebranded. The "Hornets" nickname, which followed the team to New Orleans during its 2002 relocation from Charlotte, will probably be replaced by an identity more fitting to the city to which the team is now married, for better and for worse. Though everyone involved hopes the worst is now far behind them."

"The most interesting decision of the new owner may be whether to rebrand the franchise. Will the "Hornets" nickname be relinquished and enabled to return to Charlotte, where owner Michael Jordan could rebrand his own underperforming franchise?

Jeremy Lin out indefinitely?

Jeremy Lin has missed the last 3 games for the New York Knicks and could be out longer due to soreness in his left knee.  Jeremy Lin recently underwent an MRI but the results are unknown and when Knicks Head Coach Mike Woodson was asked when Lin would return to the lineup, he responded with:

“he’s out....Still day to day,” Woodson added. “Amare’s out. Had his epidural shot yesterday. He’s day to day with Lin. I have no idea when these guys are going to return, if they’re going to return. I just don’t know.”

Wade Comments on Nephew's shooting

Dwyane Wade spoke to reporters after the Miami Heat defeated the Toronto Raptors and it was with a heavy heart, violence had touched his family as his nephew was shot the night before in a Chicago convenience store.  Wade's nephew was one of five who survived the shooting, a sixth victim was killed.

"It hurts your heart to think about not only your family, but other families going through it. I'm just glad that he's fine and hopefully recovers....I played with a heavy heart," he said. "I played for him, with him in mind.....So a lot of thoughts go through your mind and just understanding that God is good and he has another chance," he said. "My prayers go out to all the families involved, especially the one family who lost a child. My prayers go out to them. It's tough."

Grant Hill to have minor knee surgery, may miss season's end

At some point this morning, Grant Hill will undergo minor knee surgery after an MRI revealed that he has a meniscus tear in his right knee.  At this time, the time table for Hill's return is unknown but estimates show that he may be out until mid April which will be season's end for the Suns if they don't clinch a playoff spot and they currently sit two seeds out of the playoff in the 10th spot.  Grant Hill is the oldest player in the league at 39 years of age.

"He's our glue guy," Suns guard Jared Dudley said after the Suns lost to the Clippers without him Wednesday night. "He calms us defensively. He's the best defensive player. He's the one who guarded Chris Paul at home and slowed him down. Offensively, he is efficient and gets out on the break and that makes other people guard him and open up 3-pointers. He posts up and makes the extra pass."

Stoudemire received epidural

Yesterday Knicks forward/center Amar'e Stoudemire received an epidural steroid injection to subdue the pain of the bulging disk in his lower back.  The success of the injection and Stoudemire's back strengthening exercise will determine if Stoudemire will be available to play in the first round of the playoffs should the Knicks secure a playoff spot.

NBA Draft to be held in Newark NJ

When the NBA holds its draft on June 28th, the boos won't be as loud as they've been in past years when commissioner David Stern would take the stage due to the draft being held at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey for the second straight season.  The move is necessary because during this upcoming off season Madison Square Garden, where the draft is usually held be will undergoing the third stage of its renovation.

Derek Fisher's statement to LA media

“First and foremost, I’m excited to be back in the city, excited to see my friends and brothers that I consider teammates from when I was here. I’m excited to see those guys. I’m excited to see my extended type of friends sitting courtside, ticket holders, people I grew close to over the years when I was here. It’s only been a couple weeks, but it seems like so much longer, so I’m excited to get back and see everyone.
“Like I said last week, the place that this city and these fans and everyone I grew close to over the years, they and this place will always, always hold a very special place in my heart. That will never change, but due to a number of different circumstances, I’m in Oklahoma City now and I’m extremely happy to be (in OKC). This is a very special situation, just a great group of players, a great group of guys, the staff, the community, just the right fit at the right time coming off what took place and I’m just as happy as I can be in Oklahoma City and everything that’s gone on. I’m just looking forward to getting out there and playing some basketball tonight in front of what used to be the home crowd. Coming in individually, I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. There’s a lot on the line in terms of the two teams, but it’s just exciting.
“I’m thankful to you guys for the support you showed me over the years, even in good words and sometimes critical words. It was always with respect and appreciation for what I brought to my teams as best I could. I will always be thankful for the support in the media as we spend time at the court just like this over the years. So I’ll see you all tonight when I get a chance to speak in a little bit more detail. I’m trying to get back (on the court) and get some shots, and make a few later on tonight.”

Evan Turner "We Think we can win out"

Currently the Sixers and Celtics are tied for the Atlantic Division lead and the Knicks are 2.5 games behind.  Winning the Atlantic Division would guarantee home court in the first round of the playoffs and at this time Sixers, guard/forward Evan Turner believes that the team can win out to secure the division.

"We think we have a winnable schedule. We think we can win out," said Turner. "That's pretty much it. We all believe we can win out. We've just got to come out and play with intensity and play tough."

Dwyane Wade to write book on fatherhood

Dwyane Wade winning sole custody of his two sons in March of 2011 was well documented, now Wade would like to show a side of himself that most fans haven't seen.  HaperCollins Publishers announced plans to release "A Father First:  How My Life Became Bigger than Basketball" in September and will be penned by Wade.

"For me, it was therapeutic to do this....I don't have to share it with people," Wade said. "But I felt there was a need. So many people came up to me in this process, so many fathers, so many men came up to me to congratulate me and to ask me how, how I did it and why I believed I could do it."

NBA to sell ads on jerseys?

The NBA Board of Governors will meet next month to ponder the idea of selling advertising space on the league's jerseys.  Estimates show that the league would earn an extra $31.18 in revenue for television exposure alone.  The extra revenue is a great thing for the league but consider this, star teams and franchise players would be compensated more than struggling teams and role players thus adding to the ever present feeling of the haves vs the have nots.  Mark Cuban is sold on the idea and stated the following:

"I've been trying to tell [the NBA]," Cuban said. "If someone wants to give us $10 million, I'll make it happen....If the amount's enough, David will jump up and down....He's not going to do it for $200,000 from Power Balance, but if somebody offers us $25 million, it's done.....We just have to work out the split with all the teams so everybody gets the benefits."

"Hopefully, whatever he does have to say, it won't start with 'S.....When you're trying to compete, your 100 percent is not truly 100 percent," Curry said. Turiaf desired to play close to grandmother

Wanting to play on a championship contending team and also playing near his grandmother was the deciding factors for center Ronny Turiaf choosing to play for the Miami Heat.  His grandmother is a resident of Martinique and she's never watched him play in an NBA game live.

“I told my dad to tell her that last night, now she has no excuse not to come. It was definitely a positive factor in the decision. She’s seen me play when I went back home to the Caribbean to do charity events, but she’s never actually seen me play in the NBA. So, everything happens for a reason. If I have to go pick her up, I’ll go pick her up, put her on a plane and she’s going to come to watch her grandson play.”
