Abdul-Jabbar addresses LeBron James

While speaking at a recent Milwaukee Bucks game, NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar addressed LeBron James's "Mount Rushmore" and questioned how Bill Russell could have been left off of such a list.

“It’s impossible,” Abdul-Jabbar said of picking just four players. “I don’t know what LeBron was thinking. He didn’t even see Bill Russell play. He has no idea what Bill Russell did. Eleven championships in 13 years? Eight in a row? LeBron isn’t going to get anywhere near that. I don’t get it. And here he didn’t want Bill Russell on his Rushmore. I think today’s players have a very limited perspective on the game.”

“LeBron has to re-think that,” he added. “He needs to go and do some research and watch some old film, and hopefully he’ll be impressed.”

D12 addresses Abdul-Jabber's criticism

Recently while visiting ESPN, NBA Legend Kareem Abdul-Jabber questioned Houston Rockets C Dwight Howard's basketball IQ.  After being asked to respond to the comments, Howard responded with the following:

“I don’t pay any attention to that stuff. I did hear about it but everybody is entitled to their own opinion. When I joined the Lakers I was the greatest center. When I left, I was the worst. Mentally, I wasn’t capable of playing center. I understand a lot of things are said out of emotion. I will say if he has anything to say, I am here in Houston. We can talk man to man. That’s how I feel. We had one conversation (in Los Angeles) and that was before the season and I was respectfully asked to keep that conversation away from basketball. It’s emotion – the fact that I left the Lakers. It it what it is. I am in a great place right now. There is no need for me to go back and forth with him. One thing I would say is that he is old enough to where whatever I do shouldn’t even matter. He is Kareem Abdul Jabbar. If I’m Kareem, I’m like why? Four championships, five championships (actually, it’s six) whatever. I’ve been in Airplane and done movies with Bruce Lee. I am not worried about the young whippersnapper. I wish him good luck. People do things different and when I am done playing, I will do what I can to help the younger generations.’

‘You can’t win three Defensive Player of the Year trophies and be stupid. That can’t be done. And I don’t think any coach that has ever coached me has said I have a low IQ for basketball. Have I done some dumb stuff on the floor? Yes, every player has. Have I done some stupid things in life? Yes, it’s life. We make mistakes and learn from them. It is what it is. I think I am very intelligent when it comes to the game of basketball. I have been playing since I was three years old. Each year, I get a little smarter. People will have something to say. Is what it is. I’m in (Houston) now. This city has my back and we are going to ride together.’”

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar talks Kevin Durant

NBA great Kareem Abdul-Jabber currently holds the record for the most points scored in NBA history with 38,387.  Despite the fact that LeBron James has become the youngest player in NBA history to score 20,000 points, Abdul-Jabbar thinks that Kevin Durant could be the best scorer ever.

“I think he certainly has the talent,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “It all depends on if he stays healthy and is the focus of the offense, because he can score from anywhere on the court...He’s not just in it to put up numbers,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “He wants to win and understands what the game’s about. That always makes me feel better.”

Abdul-Jabbar speaks on Lakers Off-season

The Los Angeles Times caught up with NBA Great and former Laker Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and the Lakers' off-season moves were discussed.  Abdul-Jabbar was traded to the Lakers from the Bucks at age 28 and went on to win five of his six total championships with the franchise.

"The Lakers did a great job this off-season improving the team, Dwight being the latest," Abdul-Jabbar said. "Getting Steve Nash was a big deal. He's one of the best players in the league at his position. In addition, they replaced Andrew with Dwight Howard and that was nothing short of a coup.  They've done a great job and managed to keep Pau. It will make for a formidable team....Dwight is very committed to playing and winning.....Andrew has been up and down on that issue. There are times he wants to play, do a great job and he goes out and does it. Then there are other times where it seems like he's not focused...When I first started working with him, he was eager to learn....He appreciated me shortening the learning curve. Once he figured he did everything he wanted to do in terms of learning, he didn't want me to bother him constantly going over the fundamentals."
