My Take: Will 2014 be the next 2010?

During the summer of 2014, July to be exact, the NBA may see the second coming of the summer of 2010 when an NBA super power was born overnight. The superpowers that the NBA had in the past were built primarily through the draft and clever trades but never like this. The Miami Heat set the standard of waiting and then executing the perfect plan to create enough cap space to sign multiple "max" players in a year and now the seeds have been planted for the next incarnation.
Miami again will be a major factor during the summer of 2014 due to their "Big Three" having opt out clauses in their contracts at that time. No one expects all 3 potential free agents, Wade, Bosh, and James to leave the franchise but one of the 3 could very well leave and end his career with his hometown team who has coveted him for sometime. In the event that anyone of the "Big Three" were to leave, the Miami Heat would have an abundance of room to reload. The decision of the "Big Three" will again dominate the headlines but there's two other franchises who will be able to share in the spotlight due to gaining additional cap space.
After the recent trade of Dwight Howard to the Los Angeles Lakers, the Orlando Magic will stand in prime position to add two "max" players should they stay the current course and not add any bad contracts. The last time the Magic had such a large amount of space, they lured Tracy McGrady and Grant Hill to the Magic kingdom after failing to land Tim Duncan. For reasons that are unknown, the Orlando Magic seems to get a bad rap when it comes to making major free agent moves, it's as if top tier free agents are allergic to the city but with the new regime in town, that image could change fast.
Perhaps the biggest players of 2014 could possibly be the Los Angeles Lakers. At that time, the contracts of Steve Nash, Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant will be fulfilled and both will be well past their prime. If both are willing to take the cut in pay, a new Lakers Dynasty could be born with Dwight Howard as their centerpiece as they two would have enough cap space to sign two "max" players as long as they stay on the current course. Of course it's always too early to predict these things but don't underestimate the fact that this is the time where the seeds are planted. The successful franchises have figured that out. Plant the seeds when no one is paying attention and then make your move, plot the course, and win championships.

One player comes to my mind is cp3. I could c him signing a 1 year deal next summer not unless blake improves his game. If not mayb cp3 will come 2 the other side of staples. I cant c nobody leavin miami if they r winning.
ReplyDeleteAye go to youtube an look up kobe vs bow wow... lol.. kobe beat bow wow 1 on 1 for a thousand dollars... lol.. kobe a killer man.. he ain't let bow wow score 1 point

ReplyDeleteDWade is gunna. Go to the bulls
ReplyDeleteNaw .. If 1of da big 3 will go it be bosh will go or wade plus lebron and bosh will be left alone coz dwade and lebron stuck with each other like they got glue ..
ReplyDeleteIt talks in the article hometown hero. Wade is the only hometown hero on Miami. Bosh IA from Texas and lebron from Cleveland. Pay attention. What about Wade going to LA? That would be crazy! 2014 Kobe even said it earlier by then he is willing to step back and let it become Howard's team, what does that tell you, he will take a pay cut they will sign another big name guard to help out Howard and restructure the team. I can't wait to see this happen. LA ALL DAY!

The big 3 ain't breaking up as long as they are winning... they'll have 2 or 3 championship by 2014 you heard it hear first
ReplyDeleteActually wade's from chicago
ReplyDeleteIf anybody left it would be lebron...wade is gonna retire in miami...bosh aint goth the balls to leave he be too afraid of wat people would say or think of him. But lebron did mention when he left cleveland the possibility of him maybe coming back there to finish up his career and who knows if they keep having bad seasons theyre gonna keep getting high draft picks so who knows it might b a opportunity to do something there..but thatd just my hypothetical thoughts id love to see all 3 stay in mia

I hope this brand of basketball dies out like baggy pants and frosted tips, it waters down the rest of the NBA. Ya la vs mia vs nj vs bostn might be good games but what about clev vs charlt , its bad for the league. I liked how okc did it how teams used to do it , draft picks and build then grab a star free agent, I do not like this brand of ball just my opinion, I think I will move on to.other sports untill its over
ReplyDeleteIt would still be that way if franchises were just as loyal to their players when they were out of their prime as they want the players to ve to them while they were in their prime but thats not the case players would stay with teams hoping the owners/ gm would build around them but tgey didnt wanna spend the money it took to do so. Look nobody plays the game to loose everyone wants to win so players recognize that and tgey are getting out of those situations earlier in their careers rather than waiting til they are older like barkley, malone...yea they got close but it was never enough..too many great players retired from a league who defines a players legacy by the amount of rings you have with none....miller, barkley, malone, ewing, stockton etc. etc.. theres a wall of shame in the hall of fame for players with no rings! Nobody wants to be on that wall.

Wade is from Chicago and the article says that one might leave to his hometown, I wouldn't be surprised if wade left in 2014, its also the year the bulls have plans of signing there ling awaited mirotic from over seas surposely they think he can be like Dirk or something.
ReplyDeleteMiami is not a dumb team like orlando..path riley is a genius..if he cannot sign a big three together, its gona be bosh going out.. He will keep wade amd lebron for sure and sign a gud free agent..i know chicago bulls wants to have bron and wade, but not on rileys watch..hell match any offer for these two
