Statement From Billy King

Today we are pleased to announce that we have made an important trade for our team by acquiring 6-foot-8 power forward Thaddeus Young from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Garnett.
In his 8th year out of Georgia Tech, Young, 26, is having one of his best seasons, averaging 14. 3 points and 5.1 rebounds. He is a terrific multi-dimensional player who will have an immediate impact on the team. In fact, while I was President of the 76ers in 2007, I drafted him with the 12th pick of the first round and I’m thrilled to bring him to Brooklyn.
This trade gives our team more athleticism, speed, and youth, and he will be a great complement on the court with Mason Plumlee and Brook Lopez.
In his nearly two seasons with the Nets, Garnett has been a vocal leader and we appreciate everything he’s done for our organization. He’s a future Hall of Famer and we wish him the best back in Minnesota.
With 30 games left in the regular season, we feel this trade makes us a more competitive and versatile team as we head toward the Playoffs.
Thank you for your continued support of the Nets and we are looking forward to an exciting future together.
Sincerely,
Billy King
General Manager
