Q. The offense overall, coach said it’s starting to come together. Can you help me with what still needs to be worked through?
A. A lot of what our offense is going to be is chemistry. We don’t really have a lot of plays, we have a lot of concepts. So we are trying to get used to the new concepts but we are also adding some new pieces. Even the pieces who were here last year, we are getting used to these new concepts. It’s just going to take time. It was great to play the Spurs. That’s what we are trying to do. All the sets, they knew what we were running, we knew what they were running. But they’ve been doing it for so long, it’s just second nature to them. For us, we are still thinking A to B a lot and not running the play correctly.
Q. You got a lot of good looks tonight. Is that what you expect from the offense?
A. That’s a hope. The thought is when the floor is spaced the way it is, something has to be open - the guys cutting to the basket, the pick-and-roll game, the pick-and-pop. And if that’s focused on the shooters are open. If you look at San Antonio as long as Tim Duncan has been there they’ve always had guys knock down a lot of 3's for them, especially corner 3's. We are practicing them. We are all going to get them. It’s not just a couple guys. It’s definitely going to be a big part of what we do.
Q. Coach Drew liked to push the pace last year but Jeff Teague said this is even quicker. How is this offense even quicker than last season?
A. It’s the emphasis. I don’t know if we are playing faster yet. It’s what we’d like to do. We are not saying the four-man has to take the ball out of bounds. Whoever is there, take it and go. I think we have more secondary break options so as we are running we are not just running to the other end. We are running into things. We are running with a purpose and not just going for layups and quick shots. When we were good last year, we played with a lot of speed. It’s going to be the case this year too.
