DeleteNo matter what the verdict would have been, someone will always be angry with it. Were they both wrong that night -- sure were. Is it sad a kid lost his life -- extremely. But, WE (people not present that night) do not know what truly happened. Did the justice system fail -- possibly.

the stand your ground law, its a great law, but possibly not strict enough. We have a constitutional right to
protect ourselves.
Yes, 99.9% of the time I carry a gun because its my right as an American citizen and I have a legal permit to do so. I would not think twice about putting a bullet in someone who threatens my life or my family.
But what you interpret a threat, may turn out to be a kid with some skittles. Youd be a zimmerman

ReplyDeleteNo, what people are saying is, what if it were justified. Who on this app was there - anyone?? Is it that impossible to fathom that maybe Zimmerman was justified? It sucks that a kid lost his life, but by no means was Martin the angel people trying to portray him to be. Nor was Zimmerman an outstanding citizen for that matter, but FORTUNATELY, none of that came into account in court, because it was NOT evidence. Everyone here who hates the stand your ground law is saying, they'd rather have a loved one possibly die instead of defending themselves and do so by taking a life if needed?

DeleteI'm in law enforement and what happened that night had nothing to do with someone protecting themselves or family member from danger. Regardless if tm was an angel or not. None of us are. So who r we to judge the simple fact is zimmerman racial profiled the kid engaged the kid when he was told not to then killed him bc he was getting his ass whopped. Delete1. Martin was in the neighborhood cause he was suspended from school for second time for violence.
2. He has a history of drug use and drugs in his system.
3. He was being investigated for robbery and was caught with jewlery and a screwdriver in his backpack.
4. There was a slim jim in the area he was hiding - used for breaking into cars.
You are gonna sit there and tell me it is not possible that he was up to no good --seriously???
That's why Zimmerman should've and did call the police. He was told not to pursue but did, putting himself in unnecessary danger. Then the cops would've came and found what? Martin wasn't an angel and neither was Zimmerman. If you want to bring up the past, read on what Zimmerman posted on his MySpace page dealing with the law. It's best to stick with what happened that night.

ReplyDeleteI've probably been profiled more than most. Martin had PLENTY of time to walk away, but he chose to stay and fight and throw the first punch. No, zimmerman didn't know martins background, but it sure played a role that night. Listen, I'm not saying zimmerman didn't have better options or could have avoided it, but Martin took those away when he threw the first punch.

ReplyDeleteStop using the term used for that law so literally -- you sound ignorant. Martin HAD time for flight so the law is not in effect during his "standing" there. The law came into effect while martin was on top of zimmerman and zimmerman feeling his life to be in danger, and could NOT flee. I'm not saying zimmerman should not be held accountable for the shooting in some form OTHER than what they charged him with, but people also need to understand that Martin played an aggressive role in his own death. People like you get blinded to what is right in front of you.

All the best superheroes, toy characters, human cartoon characters, video game characters, restuarant characters...are predominately minority free. As children we're programed to believe that what we see is how it should be. Then, still as a child with immature minds, we learn about African slaves. When I learned about slaves I was 1 of 2 black students in the class. One of the most uncomfortable moments in my life. My point is that it's damn near impossible to view the world from the eyes of another race so respect the majority if they say something is offensive. Don't dismiss it because you don't agree or understand. If there's a cruise that requires you to be black to take it then yes that's some bs but I'm sure other races could take it if they're comfortable being outnumbered by another race...Yes racism is in all races but the way you make your points will keep a racist a racist.
