Lakers decline Jackson, hire D'Antoni

The demands from Phil Jackson were just too steep for the Lakers to give in to. Along with asking for a contract of $10-15 million, Jackson also wanted full control of the organization from a personnel stand point and the ability to only travel on select days per health reasons. The Los Angeles Lakers declined the overtures from Jackson and instead signed Mike D'Antoni to a 3 year deal worth a guaranteed $12 million.
Im cool with it. Like i said phil is too overrated at this point sitting n his high chair all laid back. Then 10 to15 mill thats to much for a coach especially when the bench is still 1 player short. For that type of money u better win it every year and that aint guaranteed. I think d'antoni will b fine, he will open it up and use those shooters off the bench better. I think we will b ok.

DeleteN defensive wise??....Lakers r like the laziest team in the league..they try to surround themselves in talent to make up for their lack of hustle n determination ...they play like they have nothing to prove anymore... not tryna be a "hater" but its been this way for a good 3-4 seasons..
DeleteYea early n the season. They start off slow and they look lazy then right around allstar break they pick it up. Same thing wit the celts. And the only guy who showed lack of hustle and determination got traded to philly. Not worried bout defense wit d'antoni, the players no wat it takes. D12 and mwp made there name on defensedont c why that will change.

DeleteOn some real type shit if atl gives up josh smith for Paul they're dumb n if they do Mae that trade they need to be gettin somethin more from la...I'm not a big fan of dantoni over Phil but he'll it's not my team. I say la shoulda gave the manvwat he wanted he'll he gave ya 5 rings already n bottom line is this if he wants to make the call over all basketball personnel then there's obviously some changes that get see that needs to be made n he has 11championships most ever so maybe u shoulda trust this guy's judgement. He was gonna bring in his coaching staff the same people he's been using for years they know the system in n out so he really didn't have to be physically present at al road games. Boottomline Phil's proven n has the rings to show dantoni ultimately hasn't done anything in his career that mb had done so at the end of the day he is just another experiment that will turn into another excuse if the Lakers aren't successful.

No urgency, to relaxed, perhaps to confident and it spreaded to the players, probably 1 of the main reasons for our slow starts. I think we really needed a change n style and mentality. The players will love d'antoni and if u think they gonna let him get away with no coaching defense n la then yall crazy. He has done more than mike brown as a coach and i think he would have won a ring if horry wouldnt knocked nash into that scoring table and got amare and others suspended n the wcf that year the spurs swept cavs. nd they been talkin bout that josh smith trade since last. Atl would have to give up more because pau makes more $. That trade would help atl to because they been undersized up front for years.

ReplyDeleteMedia was excited about Phil. Everyone knew it would be D Antoni but that wasn't as juicy as Phil. I'm stoked I think he's a great fit. For the people above who say there is no drive to win? Think before you speak, Nash will bring that when he returns, Dwight wants it bad, Kobe secretly wants that 6th to even out with MJ. It hasn't shown yet but they should sill win the west. Miami isn't as hungry but I'm sure it will still go down to the wire
Deleteremember dantoni led the suns to the playoffs year after year with Nash and STAT. As a Knicks fan I think he did great considering the hand he was dealt. His speedball style is still relevant and should fare well with the Lakers. Although defense is clearly not a priority for MDA I don't think its an issue for them, they're just playing with no confidence.

Regardless of talent u gotta coach. I got nothin against mike but they didn't pick the right person. N I bet the only reason why they turned him down is bc he wanted power oover personnel. Buss Jr ain't Tryna give that up. This guy needs to check his ego. N if u think defense is not gdoing to be a problem y'all tripping. Non of his teams ever played defense. Can't see that happening now. Offensively they will b fine but defense wins ships

Look at the 05 season for the heat came close with Stan but next season one of the greats comes down in pat Reilly comes down we win! N that proves with the right couch you win championships! This guy can't deal with all those big egos and on top of that how is Dwight gonna feel when he not being allowed to dominate the paint!n he has no shoot to play the pick n pop!

If these boys fail u think that shit would bother phil that much? It damn sure didnt seem to bother him his last year coaching when the lakers were underachieving most of the regular season. He was to busy commenting on everybody elses squad that year and walk away smiling after they got swept by dallas.

ReplyDeleteWell if that's the case wat was up either the lackluster d they plaid the first 5 games look I would really care less who coaches the Lakers but my thing us this if u gonna make Duchenne a bold statement as to fire a guy 5 gamed into the season and criticize the fact that hes never won a championship, the defensive focus wasnt there, he couldn't manage personalities, couldn't get the players to mesh u don't go out and get a clone everything they criticized mb for dantoni is he never won a title he doesn't focus on d at all, n he jus hot ran outta ny bc he couldn't manage personalities n get players to mesh. U dnt go out n get that u get someone that's proven that has rings n demands respect from pinky to thumb not somebody u can later poinrt the finger at n use their lack of as an excuse LA is just beating around the bush instead of beatn the damn bush..... ReplyDeleteHuh? Whos defensive schemes? Anybody out the west wouldve beat cleveland n the finals that year...they sucked! And they got lucky n that weak ass east that year. And d'antoni got shitted n ny. They traded his players for melo after he had built up a nice team around amare. Then last year they started the season without a pg then by the time lin came around everybody was takin turns gettin hurt. That wasnt d'antoni fault. And i feel u on go and getting a provin guy but d'antoni never coached a team with this much talent b4 so u dont know wat he can do. Just like u never seen phil get out the first round without 2 or more allstars on his teams so u dont know. B4 lakers got gasol they ass was sent home n the first round by d'antoni twice and phil was coaching the lakers then so u dont know wat d'antoni can do with this kind of talent. And by the way when the suns made it to the wcf there starting frontline was amare and kurt thomas so maybe he can make it work with gasol and d12, they just need 1 more shooter on there roster and they will b fine.

DeleteYea give him credit for building a nice team around amare but now he has the same problem because he has to find away to please Kobe n Dwight n he going favor Nash who out of all should n the most worn out! He good enough to win 1st around but in the finals thats a difference good teams crumble look at okc! N he runs n offense very similar to what okc runs n the lakers to old to run with okc!
