While speaking to ESPN radio today, Team USA head coach Mike Krzyzewski indicated that LeBron James is the most unique player ever.
"He's the most unique player to ever play basketball because he can play every position, both offensively and defensively.....I love LeBron. He was our leader. He's the best player on this planet. And I think he can even get better, as he accomplishes more....He wanted the ball....He not only wanted the ball at the end of a ball game and completed the plays and hit shots, but he made plays, he made plays."

ReplyDeleteI dont think it's possible to compare players from different eras, Jordan played in a totally different nba then what Kobe and LeBron do, its only really possible to compare great players from the same era, Kobe has 5 championships (3 because of shaq) and has always played with a dominant big man, whilst claiming 1 MVP. LeBron has 1 championship winning it with wade playing on one leg and with bosh missing half the playoffs, whilst capturing three MVP awards. I personally think Kobe has the nod for best player since Jordan, but LeBron is one championship away from passing Kobe as the best player since Jordan and also probably breaking into prob the top 5 players of all time. I dont think the nba has seen a player like James before baring probably magic, the dude scores the similar to Kobe whilst averaging 2 more assists and 2 more rebounds playing on all bar probably last year a shitter team.
In my view anyways, if you were making a team from start, you would always take a dominant big man over a sg or sf as there is just so many good sg and sf over the years, for this reason I think the best player of all time is the most dominate, imposing, freakish big man to play the game in shaq.
My top 5 of the modern era (post Jordan) would be shaq, Kobe, Duncan, LeBron, Kidd

You heat fans get your stories straight. Wade was playing on one leg. Inconsistent as hell... I agree that they did win because of bosh, but not because of the reasons you think. Heat were more dominant last year obviously when all were mostly healthy. Many of the better teams in the league had good odds at beating them no matter who went up against the big 3. When bosh went down, it was a blessing in disguise. Teams had their number prior to that, cause they knew what was coming at them at could adjust to it. Bosh going down made the heat switch things up and literally turned the tables around for the rest of the playoffs ip until the finals. OKC didn't have much of a chance due to their is experience but credit to them for the first 2 games.

If this was 2008, I would say Kobe is better than LeBron. Now, LeBron is better. Yes Magic played the 1-5 spot but he was 6'9 and didn't have to play hard d because big men weren't as athletic as they are now. Magic was not known for his defense. Yes Jordan is still the best of all time, he did pave the road for young players all over the world. Put prime Jordan in today's game, he still would be elite but his stats would suffer. Put Shaq in Bill Russels era.. Shaq would've had 15 rings. An example is ufc.. in the beginning those guys look like brawlers while Royce Gracie was ahead of the game with technical holds. Now everyone in ufc knows how to do holds . Basketball players didn't know how to adjust to Jordan's style of offense. Now you have 7 foot guys doing fadeaway jumpers.
