Speaking to NBATV recently, Patrick Ewing voiced his opinion on who'd win between the Dream Team and the 2012 version of Team USA. The playful war of words begin when Kobe Bryant suggested that Team USA could defeat the Dream Team.
"There's no comparison really," said Ewing "They're a lot smaller than we were....They're kind of light in the middle. Myself and David Robinson, we would have had a field day. ... I'm not going to say we would have creamed them. Best out of 10, I'd say we'd have beaten them 10 out of 10."

Real talk Patrick Ewing is one greatest centers in NBA history prior to him a centet would not step foot out of the paint much less the ability to knock down 15-20 jumpers consistently. He then went on to coach Yao Min. Its funny how everyone forget that Dwight Howard is great but no coachable much like Shaq. Yao Ming was just big not very talented and very slow could guard Shaq if his life depended on it but Ewing coached him up his game was almost identical to Ewings same jump shot and sweeping hook. Give the man his credit when it due!

DeleteBasketball was also a lot more physical in their day 92' before the hand check rule , you used to be able to use both hands and be all over the offensive player now if you look at them crooked its a foul, the only ones that could have made it back then is kobe 1996 is when he came in , lbj is to soft and has played in the era after the rule change. so ya players today can avrg 27 pnts a game with much softer defense rules, I bet that avrg would go down atleast 8 points if they played back then

Chandler wouldnt last with the admiral and ewing cuz he'd be in foul trouble. Lebron and kobe are the best in the game today with durant. But none the less the dream team was tons better. Their whole run they never callled a time out. Coach K has to call time to get theses dudes back on track. If you have never watched the dream team guys play then you cannot accurately put in info from that side. The game was better then. The dream team would have no problem destroying this years team, and here is why. 1- the dream team has way more size, dont even try and say that tyson chandler or anthony davis have a slight chance guarding any of the bigs of the dream team. 2- im sorry, but explain who is going to guard MJ and Magic, oh and even Bird, this years team have no true solid defenders, and dont say lebron, because his defense consists of run down blocks and thats it. Here is a simple argument. Obviously there is a 20 year difference between these Olympic teams, but riddle me this, how many of those dream team members are hall of famers. How many of this redeem team will be? I am a fan of old school and new school. But, edge has to go to old school. Bottom line which is true, players during the dream team era were more complete players. Some specialized or excelled in some areas, but most or all could do multiple things on the court. Shoot, rebound, pass, all that stuff. Hat is not so common anymore. Who on this current team is complete? And I swear LeBron better not be mentioned cause that is a load. He does do quite a few things, but lacks a couple of major aspects to make him complete.

ReplyDeleteNo. We just have respect for the game. No attorney matter at what or direction that the game might be going. All I hear is LeBron this and that. I remember hearing about everyone on the original. International play was much more competitive back in the day. Not many of the countries now offer much challenge. And this team still struggles. Again, I reiterate that I am not a LeBron hater. Quite the opposite actually. I am against the fact that he is held in comparison so highly that he is so great now and opposed to former players had accomplished so much more already by the same stage in their careers. People need to wait and talk about how great he is or was until after he is none with balling to be able to truly compare.
