So I am working out ... ready for whatever happens......"This is a special moment, a special time for this team," Howard said. "I'm still smiling, every day. Walking around throughout the city, people of course are patting you on the back, they're so proud of this past season and our accomplishments. But now it's time for us to really look back on what has happened throughout the season, be proud of all the hard work we put into it."

That should help us out going forward."

The Real Dwight Howard?

C.L. Anthony | 10:59 PM | , , ,

The sh$t may have just hit the fan...courtesy of Blacksportsonline, The Real NBA has acquired DM's that were sent from Dwight Howard to @magicmarkee via twitter where Howard apparently has put the Orlando Magic on blast for the handling of his situation.  Howard can come on television and try to play the nice guy but the images below may represent the real Dwight Howard.

Blacksportsonline statement:

I have confirmed that the DMs did indeed come from Dwight Howard’s account. I have also confirmed though that multiple people on Dwight’s team have access to his Twitter account including a cousin and business manager who post many of the promotional tweets you see on his timeline.
It is also believe it is these same associates who have been pushing Dwight to go to Brooklyn for their own personal gains.  It is very easy to differeiante between when Dwight is Tweeting and when the “team” is Tweeting.
Dwight tweets in mostly short one and two words answers.  The Team tweets in complete sentences and normally with links to promotional material.

Sports:

“He did not see this happening, said Peter Diepenbrock.....He sounded surprised. He loves the New York fans. To have the experience that he had for the two months and for that to be over with, that’s quite a shock to the system. I think he really believed the Knicks would match whatever offer he got.”

Chris Bosh speaks

C.L. Anthony | 8:00 AM | , , ,

Heat forward/center Chris Bosh recently spoke to the media about the additions of Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen and also the possibility of playing more in the post.

"The first step you take as a champion is to get better," Bosh said. "I think with Ray Allen, everybody knows about his shooting ability. Rashard Lewis can shoot it as well, but I think Rashard will be a good presence because he kind of played that system out in Orlando for a while. It's similar to how we play. He can just come in and fit in.......I'm really going to work on being a good inside presence," Bosh said. "And just get better at it."

Q&A: USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo

C.L. Anthony | 8:00 AM | ,

What do you like most about this team?

"The camaraderie. The physicalness of a team that is four years older. They're just much more mature than they were, and they've filled out so well — LeBron, Carmelo Anthony, Kobe, Chris Paul, Deron Williams. Plus the good, young players in Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook. When you add the role players — a guy like Tyson Chandler — it's a group that blends well together."

You have interesting dynamics to deal with considering the fierce competition at the close of the NBA season between LeBron, Durant and Kobe when rapport is now critical. What are your observations of that transformation?

"There's a mutual respect for a common good. They've committed themselves to being teammates. It's all about the three letters on the front of the jersey. That competition of the NBA season is left on the shelf. From our first meeting, in talking about the team concept, we didn't have to start from scratch with this group. Not with 10 gold medalists out of the 12 players. These guys have been through our program with the Olympics and 2010 world championships. They get it."

You were the point man in finalizing the roster, breaking the news to guys like Anthony Davis (before his roster return because of Griffin's knee injury), Eric Gordon and Rudy Gay that they wouldn't make it. What were those conversations like?

"It was difficult, dealing with a guy's future and livelihood. I take it very seriously and completely understand. Anthony was not as difficult because he wasn't really able to perform and because he wasn't already in the NBA. We just told those guys how difficult it was, and the truth was we could've tossed a coin to decide it. It was that close."

What are your thoughts on how this team compares with the 1992 Dream Team?

"The Dream Team will always be the team people recognize as the team of all time. But this team here is a strong team, and compared to the 2008 team . . . this team will be successful too, and I think it's deeper in terms of the roster. Very talented. Very versatile. People will say we don't have size, but we have quickness, versatility, athleticism. We talked about it. You go with what you've got and there's guys in this group who can play two to four positions. You don't take big just to have big. Kevin Love, Chandler can play center. LeBron can play the one, two, three, four or five."

NBA Commissioner David Stern has indicated he might like to limit the age of NBA players who participate on the Olympic team to 23 and younger. Are you concerned about this?

"David has been outspoken about possibly remedying the ages of those who participate in the Olympics. That would change how we go about things in what will now be called the World Cup in 2014 in Spain, but there's a long ways to go from the concept to implementing change. FIBA and a lot of people are saying a lot of things. We'll talk about all the pros and cons of doing something like this after these Olympics. My thought is we have a great program and pipeline with our juniors going."

Will you have a voice in keeping things the way they are?

"My plan is for one more run."

Your position also requires you to generate financial backing for the 54 men's and women's teams to represent the U.S. since 2008. How much have you raised, and who gives the money?

"I've been a marketing guy my whole life, so sponsorships and packages are not unusual to me. We quadrupled revenues from the time I started in 2005, and it allows us to support our senior and junior teams. We've raised $36 million for this group from companies including Nike, American Express, State Farm, Gatorade. . . ."

Was it a slam dunk to bring back Coach K? Why is he the best man for the job?

"He was the best man in '05 to turn this program around, and he remains the best man. He's an incredible leader and coach and he gets these guys to perform for him. It was my observation that having continuity is the best thing for this team's credibility and competitiveness."

You're confident of repeating as gold medalists?

"Yes. We don't take anyone lightly. Spain will be tough. You can't afford to assume it's a given you'll win, and I'm not putting any stock in the idea we'll have it easy early. We need to go over there and play our best basketball. I'm confident we will."

As it currently stands, the Houston Rockets may lose a chunk of their valued cap space if the Knicks decide not to match Houston's offer to guard Jeremy Lin and if the Bulls decline to match a similar offer made by Houston to Omer Asik.  If the two deals are passed upon, Houston could still make a trade for Dwight Howard but they wouldn't be able to acquire any of the other bad contracts that the Orlando Magic would likely try to put on them.

“I’m a little disappointed for a freak accident like that,” Irving told Jason Lloyd. “I have to be more responsible about my health. It was crazy. It happened so fast. That thing I did, hitting the padding on the wall, I’ve done it so many times. This time it was just a freak accident.”

Olajuwon to the rescue?

C.L. Anthony | 8:00 AM | , , , ,

The Rockets will use every trick imaginable to get Dwight Houston and convince him to re-sign with the franchise.  The Rockets have contacted their all-time great Hakeem Olajuwon and have asked him to convince Howard to stay with Houston for the long term should they compete a trade for Howard.Last summer, the two spent time together at Olajuwon's ranch as Dwight was there to add more to his game.  Speaking to FOX Sports Florida via phone, Olajuwon confirmed his mission for the Rockets.

"The Rockets asked me to reach out, and I'll talk to him (if the deal goes through)," Olajuwon said of Howard, who can become a free agent next summer and could arrive in Houston with no guarantee he will stay past 2012-13. "I'd like the talk to be more like real, and I'll let him make his decisions after that......Not too many teams are willing to take the chance," Olajuwon said of teams wary of trading for Howard with no guarantee he will re-sign. "Les (Alexander, Houston's owner) is not afraid to make a big step like that… (Such a trade would be) very risky if you don't get a firm commitment (from Howard about staying).....For the Rockets, of course I could encourage him, but ultimately he has to do what's best for his career," Olajuwon said. "Of course, Houston is a great city. A lot of players settle in Houston. Wherever he goes, he's going to be a franchise player for that team. Does he want to try to win a championship sooner (rather) than later? Then I'm sure he's (thinking of) teaming up with superstars to get to that level. I don't know, in that case, who he will team up with in Houston that can give him that (immediately)."

Q&A With Hasheem Thabeet

Courtesy of Darnell Mayberry

Q: What attracted you to the Thunder?
A: The organization. I like the system. I’ve been playing against them a lot, and the way they do things I really like it. That’s pretty much it.
Q: What do you expect in your first season with the Thunder?
A: Just come in ready to work. I don’t expect too much here. I’ve got to establish my position on the team, so I’ve just got to work and come in ready.
Q: What kind of feedback have you gotten from the coaches during your private workouts with them this week in Orlando?
A: I’ve got to be ready to work. I’ve got to get in shape. They told me that with this organization everything you get you have to work for it. Nothing is going to be given. You’ve got to come in here and just work.
Q: This is now your fourth team in four seasons. What do you think will be different about this team?
A: It’s a different situation, a new situation. Just come in with a defensive mentality. It’s not about the past. It’s about what I have now and what I face now. So, again, my work will be the key.
Q: What are you most looking forward to as a member of the Thunder?
A: Winning. It’s been a great winning program so I just got to come in ready to play and establish my position.
Q: How have you handled the expectations that came with being a No. 2 overall pick? Was it too much at times, people expecting you to be a dominant player?
A: Everybody has different perspectives of the situation. I really don’t dwell on my past. This is a different situation. I’ve got to come in, establish my position and work hard. That’s the only thing I can control. I can’t control my past. I’ve just got to enjoy what I face right now.
